Why choose
Electrolysis?
Because electrolysis is safe and the only proven method of permanent
hair removal recommended by physicians.
How does Electrolysis work?
Trained professionals permanently eliminate the growth cells of unwanted
hair with short-wave, galvanic or blended methods of electrolysis. Each
method available can be explained by a professional Electrologist during
consultations. Treatments are safe and permanent results are achieved.
How long does it take?
Completion time varies with each individual depending on the coarseness
of the hair, the number of hairs to be removed and if temporary hair
removal methods were previously used. Permanency is achieved through a
series of regular treatments determined for each individual. Following
treatment, instructions will speed completion. Hormones are a factor.
This includes puberty, pregnancy, menopause, and medications. Stress is
also factor.
Is Electrolysis something new?
No, electrolysis was developed over 100 years ago by a doctor in the
U.S.A. It is used throughout the world as the only method of permanent
hair removal
What does a treatment feel like?
Each individual’s level of comfort during treatment varies. Some
sensation will be felt, depending on the sensitivity of the individual
receiving treatment.
What areas of the body can be treated?
Common areas treated are eyebrows, upper lip, chin, hairline, bikini,
legs and other body areas. Your particular concerns can be discussed
with a professional Electrologist during a consultation.
What is the cost involved?
Cost will vary with each individual, depending on the amount of hair to
be removed. The total cost may be less than the continuing cost of
temporary methods. Consult a professional Electrologist in your area for
specific fees charged.
Is Electrolysis safe?
Yes, in the hands of a professional, electrolysis is completely safe. It
is often recommended by the medical profession and Electrologists
receive referrals from doctors. Proper sterilization procedures are
essential and should be explained prior to treatment.

What Is
Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a process to destroy the cells responsible for hair
growth. The electrologist inserts a wire/filament called a probe and
sometimes referred to a needle into the hair follicle. The patient will
not feel the insertion and there is no pain associated with this.
Once the probe is in the hair follicle, the electrologist delivers a low
electric current to destroy the follicle and papilla. There are a
variety of methods to achieve destruction, but all use low electric
current.
Galvanic is a method which utilizes Direct Current (DC) to induce a
chemical reaction in the hair follicle. This chemical change produces
sodium hydroxide which destroys the cells responsible for future hair
growth.
Thermolysis also referred to as shortwave, radio frequency, diathermy
and high frequency, utilizes Alternating Current (AC) to create heat in
the follicle for a short interval of time thereby electro-coagulating
the follicle tissue.
Flash Thermolysis is the application of alternating current at a much
higher intensity for only fractions of a second thereby
electro-desiccating follicle tissue.
The Blend is a combination of Galvanic and Thermolysis.
In electrolysis the term modality is used. This is simply a term used to
describe the different methods used to deliver current to the follicle.
The modalities are; Galvanic Modality, Thermolysis Modality, and The
Blend Modality.
Hair removal has received increased publicity since the introduction of
the first hair removal laser. It wasn't until all the laser hype a few
years ago that men became interested in permanent hair removal.
Health conscience men spend several hours per week exercising in the gym
to stay trim and build muscle mass. Because they are proud of their
well-defined lines, they shave, wax or use depilatories on their bodies.
Weight lifters realize that hairless bodies make them look bigger. After
the first Mr. Universe was crowned in 1950, weight lifters with hair
free bodies became ordinary.
Shaving an entire body several times per week can be a tiresome routine
for a guy with excessive body hair. Waxing can be very painful and there
is a potential of acne-causing ingrown hairs while unwelcome skin
irritation may follow the use of depilatories. Laser treatments provided
by a highly trained laser technician is an alternative to these methods
for fast relief of unwanted hair. Laser results last longer, but rarely
will destroy all hair permanently on a treated area.
Almost always, a man seeking professional hair removal services is
interested in treating a large area. Electrolysis is a permanent
solution if a highly skilled professional can be found in your area.
Laser assisted hair removal will offer long lasting results and clinical
studies indicate some permanent hair loss on treated areas of ideal
candidates(fair skinned, dark haired). Before seeking professional hair
removal services, a man must first decide what he hopes to achieve, by
when and at what cost.
Back hair is the number one concern for men. Electrolysis on the back
will require an initial clearing and about 3 - 5 additional clearings.
Unfortunately, depending on the hair density, budget, experience of the
electrologist and time available, the initial clearing may take several
months, then, it is to do again. An alarming number of well established
electrologists do not have the necessary time available to dedicate to
one client. Usually, a man who wants to have hair removed from his back
will require several years of electrology treatments. If your goal is to
walk down the beach with your shirt off next summer, then electrolysis
is probably not for you. The temporary results of laser treatments may
be the only logical hair removal choice for men with extremely heavy
hair growth on their backs who desire quick relief.
Because hair on the penis may decrease sexual pleasure for some men or
their partners, genital hair removal is a big concern too. Irritation
caused by temporary removal methods can be painful for him and
uncomfortable for his partner. Genital hair can be safely and
effectively removed with only a few electrology treatments when properly
performed. For some this is a necessity while others simply desire a
cleaner or more shapely growth pattern. Both electrolysis and laser
treatments will work fine to treat the genital area. Electrolysis
treatments are permanent and laser treatments will provide temporary
results for a period of time. However, few electrology clinics offer
treatment on male genitals while most laser clinics do.
Smooth hairless bodies are considered clean, youthful and sexy creating
a big demand for hair removal experts that offer their services to men.
More men than ever before are removing their body hair and going bare.
Guys Need Us Too
by Rhonda Roten, LE, CPE

"I've often been asked how I came to be in this profession. I always
answer, "Evolution". Strangely, I had thought briefly of becoming an
electrologist over 16 years ago, but didn't pursue it. Then, after a few
careers the thought occurred to me again. This time with a different
attitude. And here I am five years later very involved in the
profession.
But even more often I'm asked why I'm in this profession. My main reason
for getting in this profession other than the obvious (let's face it a
gal's gotta make a living) was to help improve the quality of people's
lives. It's amazing how getting rid of embarrassing hair can elevate
one's self-confidence. Now, in addition to electrolysis, I provide
permanent cosmetics. Again, motivated to improve the quality of people
lives.
The world of Electrology has been dominated by women. However, many
female electrologists do not treat men or at the very least limit where
they will treat. This is unfortunate for those men who want this
service. Until our society stops confusing nudity with sexuality this
will continue. I preach this to my colleagues and intellectually they
know this, but cannot allow themselves to be comfortable with the
subject of treating males below the waist. I can see where it is a much
needed service for many men and gladly accept male clients.
Most never think of how uncomfortable intercourse can be for men with
hair growing up the shaft. They don't think of the discomfort his
partner may have if they are subjected to the razor stubble there
either. And what about the friction of just wearing ordinary underwear?
The list goes on. As you can see, this is not a subject of perversion.
Let's don't forget the hairy backs, necks, etc. I have clients who would
not go on the beach without their shirts or even expose their neck from
under a collar because they feel so self-conscience about their hair. To
make matters worse, our fashion industry has brainwashed us to consider
this hair as unacceptable. Ridiculous as it might be, it is not uncommon
to hear a young women comment on how she is repulsed by hairy men. In my
father's day women would swoon over all his "excessive" hair. Another
example how people are influenced by the power of media.
Here at Aboutface Electrology & Permanent Cosmetics I strive to make all
my clients, as well as men and transgenders, feel comfortable. I also
strive to stay informed and open-minded for their benefit. However, I
don't "sugarcoat" the subject of hair removal. Although electrolysis is
the only form of permanent hair removal, to date, it is not a
"quick-fix". As with many things, it's a process. And there are pro's
and con's to everything. For an individual to be successful in their own
hair removal experience, honesty is where to start." |
